Qualifications

  • To qualify for the GS-05:
  • Specialized Experience: Have one year of experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service, including oral presentation of technical, historical, or scientific information to groups. Examples include roles such as park guide, naturalist, environmental teacher, etc.
  • Education: Four years of education after high school leading to a bachelor’s degree with business-related courses (e.g., U.S. history, science, public speaking, parks and recreation, education, communications). Transcripts must be provided.
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of the above experience and education, such as 6 months of specialized experience and 3 years of relevant college study, including at least 12 semester hours of related coursework. Transcripts are required.
  • Both paid and volunteer experience count, including roles in national service programs like the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps. All eligibility and qualification requirements must be met by 04/23/2024.

  • Substitution: Education can be substituted for experience at the GS-05 grade level.
