  • Electrician (Construction) Department of Energy Bonneville Power Administration has the following qualifications:
  • For the post of Electrician, the applicant has to fulfill the following requirements:
  • Experience and Training: Experience and training do not require any specific period of time; the applicant’s resume must reflect the knowledge and skills required and emphasize the quality of the experience.
  • Screen-out Element: To be eligible, must have the ability to perform most of the following duties under general supervision:
  • Perform maintenance, installation, modification, calibration and repair of electrical substations, power generation/transmission/distribution equipment and systems at voltages ranging from 11,000 to 500,000 volts.
  • To climb, maintain and repair electrical substations.
  • Working with Transformer Banks.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed under the direction of an electrician foreman and involves work in varying degrees of hazardous conditions. Applicants are responsible for safety practices, completing tasks safely, and documenting the work. Overtime is required to ensure system reliability.
  • Physical Requirements: The Electrician (Construction) position involves physical demands, including installing, adjusting, diagnostic testing major electrical equipment, driving, and sometimes directing others in the trade.
  • Note: “Experience” includes both paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer service, that is relevant to the position. Volunteer work enhances skills.

Duties

  • Duties An electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing major electrical equipment, including transformers and circuit breakers. They assemble control and relay panels, install switchboards and communications equipment, and erect steel structures to support electrical gear. Additionally, they operate on-ground systems and perform switching procedures as needed for safety and maintenance purposes.

  • Passing radiation training and written examination for Richland positions.
  • Completion of Power System Electrician Orientation Training in first year.
  • Initial drug testing before appointment and random drug/alcohol testing after appointment.
  • Pre-employment medical examination at BPA’s expense due to physical requirements.
  • A medical examination is possible at scheduled periodic intervals, such as after employment, in case of exposure to health hazards.
