The Chief of Medicine will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Department of Medicine, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and satisfaction. Will foster a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement among medical staff, nurturing an environment that promotes innovation and research. The incumbent will have overall medical oversight of the in-patient units, out-patient medical sub-specialties clinics; patient experience; quality of care; and quality metrics.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge in caring for the Veteran population, the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team and demonstrate excellent customer service skills. This person will act as the liaison between JJP and ISMMS; providing oversight and expanding the academic, research & training program in medicine.

Qualifications

  • Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Duties

  • James J. Peters (JJP) VAMC is a tertiary care medical center classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1b facility that provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient health care services. There is a diverse range of opportunities and infrastructure to conduct basic and clinical research. JJP provides additional support for various educational and industry-sponsored initiatives that benefit our employees and Veterans. We are a close affiliate of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) and we also hold affiliations with the Hospital for Special Surgery and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in selected specialty services. Joining our prestigious institution, the Chief of Medicine will advance our mission to revolutionize healthcare and make a profound impact on veterans’ lives.
  • Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine degree and be board-certified in the fields of their training and practice. Additional management and leadership training are preferred.

Pay Scale & Salary

  • VM 00 ($300,000 – $375,000 per year)
  • Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay)
